June/July 2019 Recap

There’s a TON of meat and potatoes in this recap, so buckle up and hope you enjoy the overview!

The topic of opioid abuse has been on the front page of articles for what seems like the past decade, and a major pain point (no pun intended) for public health officials to wrap their heads around

At the AFHA, we’ve been working diligently on creating programs to not only increase awareness of this issue, but also educate, identify and stop it completely.

Below, you’ll see some of the work we’ve been doing, and how we’re helping the community to make sure we rid this epidemic completely.

Our President, Dr. Timothy Youkhana being interviewed by Yousip Rasho, Host of Assyrian MediaCenter’s broadcast regarding opioid abuse.

During the interview, Dr. Youkhana and Mr. Rasho discussed the pitfalls that members of the Assyrian American community are struggling with, and ways parents and loved ones can help them out of their situation.

Drug Screening Program Update for Employers

Highlighting the Drug Screening program that the AFHA has developed for employers, Dr. Youkhana spoke about the partnership they’ve forged working with organizations such as the Skokie Chamber of Commerce and Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce, to ensure employers have random screening programs in place. By creating such a program, employers can identify potential employees who may be abusing these substances, and getting them the help that they need.

If interested in getting your business signed up with our random drug screening program, please fill out the “CONTACT US” form and select “drug screening program” to get started. One of our team members will reach out to get your business set up.

Assyrian Athletic Club Updates

The Assyrian Athletic Club (@assyrianaathleticclubchicago) is an organization that was established in the early 1990s. Its focus has been to create a positive outlet for members of the community by creating and facilitating sports leagues, from soccer, to basketball, co-ed volleyball, youth programs, as well as an annual golf outing.

Because of their committee to promoting a healthy lifestyle, it’s only natural for the AFHA to support the great things the Assyrian Athletic Club has done, and continues to do.

We were fortunate enough to be able to sponsor one of their Men’s Basketball Teams for the Summer season of 2019, the Winged Bulls. You can find out more about team schedules, when the playoffs being and all the athlete’s stats by visiting https://www.hometeamsonline.com/teams/Default.asp?u=ASSYRIANLEAGUE&s=basketball

In addition to their basketball and volleyball leagues, the Assyrian Athletic Club also allowed us to help sponsor their annual golf event. This year, the AAC was able to host 83 golfers at the wonderful Chevy Chase Golf Course in Wheeling, Il. In their largest turnout yet, the champions of the tournament came in with an unbelievable score of -9 (best ball format).
